ORI-C Framework. Canonical Version
PURPOSE The ORI-C framework formalizes the dynamics of a system capable of maintaining its viability, absorbing perturbations, and producing a cumulative symbolic effect. It is based on three internal variables, two structural aggregates, a symbolic dimension, an order variable, and exogenous constraints. All functions, proxies, and weightings are defined ex ante.
INTERNAL VARIABLES Organization O(t) Level of structuring that enables the production and coordination of functions. Measured using proxies defined ex ante.
Resilience R(t) Capacity to absorb perturbations without loss of viability. Measured over a defined time window.
Integration I(t) Degree of functional coherence among the system’s components. Measured using indicators of internal coordination.
The three variables are independent in their definition.
STRUCTURAL AGGREGATES Viability V(t) Minimum performance over a window [t-Δ, t], obtained via a non-compensatory aggregation fixed ex ante.
Capacity Cap(t) Maximum sustainable demand level, projected from O(t), R(t), I(t) according to an explicit function defined ex ante.
STRUCTURAL TENSION Mismatch Σ(t) Excess demand relative to capacity: Σ(t) = max(0, D(E(t)) - Cap(t)). Where D(E(t)) denotes the demand exerted on the system, potentially determined by an exogenous state E(t).
SYMBOLIC DIMENSION Symbolic stock S(t) Amount of transmissible symbolic resources (norms, narratives, procedures, signals), measured using proxies weighted ex ante.
Order variable C(t) Intergenerational gain attributable to social transmission over a horizon T. Indicator of cumulativity.
EXOGENOUS CONSTRAINTS U(t) External perturbations imposed on the system: overload, loss of capacity, symbolic cutoff. Experimentally manipulable.
DYNAMIC REGIMES Pre-threshold C(t) ≈ 0; S(t) non-cumulative; dynamics dominated by O-R-I.
Transition Partial decorrelation between O-R-I and C(t); emergence of a delayed effect attributable to S(t).
Cumulative regime C(t) > 0 stably; amplifying social transmission; autonomous dynamics.
CAUSAL TESTS An ORI-C protocol must make it possible to test:
The causal effect of O-R-I on V(t) and Cap(t).
The causal effect of S(t) on C(t).
The existence of a cumulative symbolic threshold.
Tests must be reproducible, independent, and based on exogenous manipulations.
FALSIFIABILITY CONDITIONS
All functions are defined ex ante.
No parameter is adjusted after observation.
Proxies are documented and weighted prior to execution.
Causal tests are reproducible.
Threshold detection criteria are explicit.
Cumulative dynamics must be attributable to S(t) and not to O-R-I.
